Central Asian leaders get honored with Tolstoy International Peace Prize

(MENAFN) The presidents of Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan were presented with Russia’s Leo Tolstoy International Peace Prize on Sunday during an informal gathering of Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) leaders in St. Petersburg, according to reports.

Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the distinction in recognition of their “significant personal contributions” to advancing peace and stability across Central Asia.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, who took part in the ceremony, commended the three leaders for the progress they have made in resolving long-standing border disputes between their countries, as stated by reports.

The Leo Tolstoy International Peace Prize, which was established in Russia in 2022, is awarded to individuals and organizations deemed to have made meaningful efforts toward fostering peace, cooperation, and mutual understanding among nations.
