Italy, Ireland Stress Gaza Aid and Condemn Settler Violence

(MENAFN) Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin jointly stressed the importance of humanitarian access to Gaza and condemned settler violence and Israeli settlement expansion during talks in Rome on Friday, according to reports.

Speaking at a joint press conference, Meloni said both leaders shared “fixed positions” on the situation in Gaza and the West Bank, while affirming that Israel’s right to security remains recognized.

She also reiterated support for a two-state solution, describing it as the “only possible just and lasting peace.”

Martin called for an urgent end to conflicts across the Middle East, including in Iran, Lebanon, and between Israel and Palestine, emphasizing that progress depends on diplomacy and respect for international law.

“That will only emerge with a true commitment to diplomacy, to dialogue, to human rights and international law,” he said.

He further highlighted the need to end violence in the occupied West Bank and halt settlement activity, while urging a significant increase in humanitarian aid deliveries into Gaza and the creation of a credible path toward renewed dialogue.
